CITCO and the OSCE discuss cooperation with the Kyrgyz Republic on preventing violent radicalisation in prisons.

On 7 July, the Intelligence Centre for Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime (CITCO) hosted a delegation from the Kyrgyz Republic, composed of representatives of the State Service for the Execution of Sentences, under the Cabinet of Ministers, and of the Probation Department of the Ministry of Justice. The meeting was promoted by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) within the framework of the project “Enhancing the Capacity of the Kyrgyz Republic in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization that Lead to Terrorism (P/C VERLT) in prisons”.

The main objective of the visit was to strengthen the delegation’s practical knowledge of the rehabilitation and reintegration approaches applied to individuals convicted of violent extremism offences, as well as to become acquainted with the multidisciplinary practices developed in European contexts.

In the course of the session, CITCO experts presented the framework of the Spanish criminal justice system in this field and introduced the coordination model established between the prison administration, the State Law Enforcement Agencies, the intelligence services, the judicial administration and the other actors involved in reintegration processes.

This meeting builds upon the visits held in 2023 and 2024, thereby consolidating the exchange of good practices in the prevention of and fight against violent extremism, particularly with regard to individuals convicted of violent extremism offences or engaged in radicalization processes.

The holding of this meeting reaffirms CITCO’s commitment to promoting initiatives that contribute to the fight against violent radicalism and to the identification of radicalization processes.
